Albuterol Inhaler for Treatment of Asthma


Albuterol is a medication in the treatment of asthma that can also be referred to as salbutamol, this is a medication that is used to prevent the symptoms of asthma such as wheezing and shortness of breath. It is also a medication that can be used by people suffering from asthma as a maintenance medication prior to exercise. Albuterol is one of the asthma medications that is classified in with the bronchodilators and works to open the airways and relax the muscles.

There are some possible side effects that are known, such as the ability to cause nervousness, shaking, dizziness, headache, mouth and throat dryness or irritation, cough, nausea and possible problems sleeping.  In rare cases there is the possibility that it can cause worsening of breathing as an allergic reaction to the medication and medical treatment should be gotten immediately.

This is a medication that prior to prescribing the physician should be aware of any other medications that are being taken and during pregnancy it should only be taken when needed.

Albuterol Inhalers should not be used while taking MAO inhibitors, including furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide and others, as this can be a serious or fatal drug interaction. This inhaler should also not be sued with some other prescription, non-prescription and herbal medications.
