What Allergies Cause Asthma?

Asthma is a chronic disease caused by the inflammation of airways. It is characterized by symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, and tightening of the chest.  The exact causes of asthma are not known, but allergic reactions to certain substances have been linked as factors that can trigger ‘allergic asthma’ in people.

Allergic asthma is when certain people develop sensitivity towards particular allergens. Allergens are what cause reactions in the immune system of the body that can trigger asthma. Two of such allergies that can cause allergic asthma are inhaled allergens and food allergies.

Certain substances, when inhaled, can cause asthmatic reactions to occur. Such inhaled allergens may include animal dander, cockroaches, pollen, molds and dust mites. When breathed in, these particles can trigger allergic reactions that eventually lead to asthma.

Certain food items can also be allergic to some people, such as peanuts, eggs, soy, fish, shrimp, pickled foods and sometimes fruits and vegetables. The common symptoms of food allergies are tendency to vomit, feeling nausea, rash or hives. If any of such food items cause asthma, wheezing and coughing would follow the symptoms of food allergy.

Allergic asthma can be controlled if the exposure to these allergens can be minimized. However, consulting with a doctor for a proper plan to follow is the best way to deal with asthma.
