What is an Asthma Control Test? |
Asthma can be deadly. According to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, approximately 250,000 people die from asthma annually. That’s why people with asthma must monitor their asthma. This will prevent worsening of asthma symptoms, such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and chest tightness, as well as reduce the risks of having asthma attacks, which can be fatal. Controlling asthma is extremely important for people with moderate and serious asthma. In addition, it is highly recommended for people with a history of asthma attacks. One of the crucial elements of asthma control is careful monitoring of asthma symptoms. This can be done through the Asthma Control Test (ACT). The test allows asthma patients to check how frequent their asthma symptoms have been over the last month. The test also keeps note of the severity of those symptoms and the frequency of treatment through quick-relief medications, such as rescue inhaler Albuterol. There are a number of asthma control tests available online. By far, the most popular of these tests is the Asthma Control Test™ (ACT) launched by the GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) on World Asthma Day 2006. This ACT is a self-administered five-item questionnaire that can help people aged above 12 years or more assess their asthma control. |
