How does Cromolyn help in the treatment of asthma? |
Cromolyn is a drug that can be used to prevent certain allergic reactions from occurring. It accomplishes this by preventing the discharge of certain allergy-inducing chemicals from some parts of the body (e.g. lungs, nose, and eyelids). Cromolyn can help to counteract asthmatic reactions which take place due to allergic reactions. Cromolyn was granted approved by the FDA in 1973, and it gained over-the-counter status in its nasal solution form in 1997. The oral inhaler of Cromolyn can control asthma attacks brought forth by allergic reactions to alien antigens such as pollen. It prevents the contraction and seizures of the bronchial tubes of the lungs. The dosage differs in case of different patients. Before taking the inhaler, be sure to shake the aerosol bottle well, then place it between your lips and close them tightly around the mouthpiece. The aerosol is used while breathing in slowly, after which it is taken out of the mouth. The inhaled breath must be held in for a count of ten, after which it is to be slowly exhaled. After that, rinsing out the mouth with water or mouthwash is strongly recommended, since it can prevent various side-effects such as hoarse voices or throat irritations.
