How can Mast cell stabilizers be used to treat Asthma?

Mast cell stabilizers are a type of medication used to neutralize allergic asthma. If taken regularly, they minimize or eradicate symptoms of allergy, such as runny noses, inflammation, and skin irritations. They rarely invoke unintended side-effects, but they also take longer to work, being weaker than many other types of asthma medication, such as antihistamines.

Allergies are triggered when a particular substance is falsely perceived by the body's immune system as dangerous, resulting in an adverse reaction which occurs to counter the threat in the first place. Allergic asthma is a specific case of allergy which results in severe swelling of the respiratory tracts, making breathing extremely difficult.

Mast cell stabilizers should be taken regularly to prevent possibilities of asthma attacks and also to treat allergy symptoms of various types. Some variants of mast cell stabilizers can also be used to restore the normal integrity of swollen respiratory pathways to allow the patient to breathe normally. The effect of the stabilizers last for up to eight hours, and they must be taken regularly for at least two weeks in order to be effective. It can be taken in various forms, such as inhalers, nebulizers, eye drops, nasal sprays, pills or even in liquid form.
