Can Mold exposure lead to Asthma?

Specialists and researchers of asthma have reported substantial increases in the number of children affected by asthma over the last decade. Exposure to various substances in their surrounding environment, including automobile exhaust, cigarette smoke, dust mites and even molds, have all contributed to increasing the number of affected children.

Recently the issue of asthma and exposure to mold has been studied over a number of subjects who were exposed to mold in early life. The relationship investigated was the level of exposure to mold and the development of wheezing or coughs in early life.

The findings have suggested that there IS a significant link between these two. What has also been found out is that children whose mothers have a history of asthma are found to be more susceptible to environmental allergens such as mold. The researchers concluded that early exposure to mold increases the risk of having asthma.

However, one must remember that these reports should be carefully analyzed prior to drawing any conclusions, because early cough and wheeziness does not necessarily indicate that asthma is imminent to an individual later on.
