Can Stress Aggravate Asthma?

Asthma is normally induced via various triggers and reasons. Anything which activates the asthma symptoms can be identified as asthma triggers.  Rigorous Exercise Sessions and Exposure to dust are two of the most common ones. They take effect by activating the asthma symptoms related to coughing and wheezing. It happens because the airways in the lungs are congested due to the secretion of mucus and other substances. They block the air passages and make it harder for the heart to pump blood. These in turn lead to inflammation in the air passages inside the lungs thus resulting in difficulty for a person to breathe. However, there is another very common asthma trigger which is generally overlooked by the patients. Yes, it is stress.

Stress is one of the major asthma inducing triggers.  Stress enforces asthma symptoms and makes a person feel breathless and panicked. Asthmatic persons may feel frightened when these two symptoms occur concurrently. As a person’s stress level increases, his asthma symptoms are triggered more frequently and he enters a vicious cycle.

Stress can be reduced via maintaining a disciplined lifestyle and getting things done on time. Asthmatic patients need to lead a very organized lifestyle, constantly being aware of the elements which trigger asthma.
