What are the symptoms of cardiac asthma?

Cardiac asthma arises from blockages of the pulmonary circulation system. It is quite different than normal asthma, including some uncommon symptoms. Symptoms of cardiac asthma are generally wide and varied. They include:

  • Usually occurs after rigorous  exercise sessions or before going to bed
  • A continuous feeling of uneasiness or discomfort
  • An increase in fast and shallow breathing
  • A feeling of breathlessness
  • Increase in blood pressure
  • Increase in heartbeat
  • Increase in the rate of coughing
  • Some patients experience swollen ankles which become worse as the day goes on
  • Some patients of this particular illness cannot sleep for prolonged periods of time as this worsens their breathing. As a result they have to sit up straight every few hours in order to regain their normal breathing.

These are some of the major symptoms associated with cardiac asthma and one must be aware of these in order to identify any imminent attack due to cardiac asthma. It must be ensured that a patient be aware of the symptoms at all times, since being careful one can easily offset the effects and take necessary medical precautions to subdue ay imminent effect.
